As if my feet weren't nasty enough. People tell me I should keep my socks on, Pedicure people cut my foot massages first out of pure disgust. I had been reading for months now that my feet might swell. I assumed I was in the clear by now. Nope. Wrong.
As any good researcher would do, I googled "Edema" and found out that it is worse in the summer and during the third trimester. Summer-check! Third trimester-almost check! It's due to the tissues in your feet/legs retaining fluids and changes in your blood flow due to my growing uterus putting pressure on the vena cava (the vein that carried blood from your legs back up to your heart), so the blood gets all backed up and pools in your tissue.
So all of you who are worried about my swollen feet, don't worry. I've also googled how to alleviate edema.
- don't cross your legs
- stretch
- alternate sitting and standing
- wear maternity stockings
Perhaps maternity stockings are the perfect thing to get me more swag... I've been told I need more swag. It also says to not eat junk food, but I'll just ignore that...
